How do I:

Join a class?
You can join the Vertical Dance pole dancing classes, courses and lessons at any time as we cater our choreographed pole fitness and exercise routines to each participants level. All you need to do is book your pole dance lesson online stating your preferred start date in the note section, print out your conformation and come along to your pole class.

You need to prepare yourself for a workout, so you should wear tracksuit, T-Shirt, trainers/jazz shoes and shorts. Please DO NOT apply creams or lotions to your body before attending your pole dance class.

Stop bruising and chaffing?
Bruising and chaffing is general caused by lack of body strength. The arms are not strong enough to support the bodies weigh so the legs over compensate by gripping on to the pole too tightly, alternatively the hands grip the pole too tightly allowing the lower body to spin but the lead hand to stop, this will result in chaffing of the wrists and arms. As your strength and technique begins to improve your bruising and chaffing becomes less and less. For wrists and arms we recommend placing sweat bands on the offending areas, for knees and legs, you should buy dance knee pad or use rolled over leg warmer and for feet you should try jazz shoes or yoga trainers.

Know how many are in a class?
It is very important to me that each student gets ample time on the pole so pole dancing classes are limited to 3 student to a pole. We currently have between 5 to 15 poles depending on our venues and we keep class sizes to 15 students to one instructor.

Clean my pole?
Once a month clean you pole with soap and water, rinse and dry thoroughly. when you use the pole we recommend rubbing alcohol and a dry tea towel, Tesco value baby wipes (make sure they do not contain moisturiser)

Where can I attend the classes?

Please take a look at locations here.

Where can I buy a pole and do I need one?
You can purchase your pole from the Vertical Dance site, there are many different styles so please contact us for a personal assessment and recommendation on which pole will best suit your requirements.

With every new thing you learn you need to practice it to reach a good standard. Participating in one Vertical Dance class a week will give you the skills you need to perfect so we recommend that you purchase a pole for home practice, also taking part in one class a week will not be enough exercise for the body, so unless you can get to around three classes a week the most cost effective way is to buy your own pole. Having said that please make sure that you have been to a few lesson before you purchase a pole, you may find that you are not suited to this form or exercise.

Why do we need bare arms, legs and no body lotions?

With a Vertical Dance class the pole requires skin contact to cause traction or a break, if you do not have bare skin traction to the pole can not be had and the body part can not grip causing too much slide, so we recommend sports shorts that are tight fitting around the upper thigh area (cycling shorts are too long) and a vest top, how ever if you feel uncomfortable please wear loose fitting tracksuit bottoms that can be rolled up. Please do not wear any body creams or lotions on the day of your class. Cream coats the skin in grease which transfers to the pole making it slippery and dangerous. You maybe asked to sit out of the class if we feel it is too dangerous for the pole.

Who can attend a Vertical Dance class?

Absolutely anyone, male or female, size or shape can join in a pole exercise class, but one thing we do stipulate is that all students must be over the age of 18 or over the age of 16 with parents consent and the participant must be healthy and NOT anti-natal or post-natal.  Everyone is shy at first so you are all in the same boat, but if you really cant join in a group fitness class then why not have a one to one class.

What:?

will the class involve?
The class begins with a dance warm up to increase the bodies temperature, mobilise the joints and prepare the body for the next part of the class, the routine, this includes spins, transitions and floor work designed for each students level. To finish there is a cool down to improve flexibility.

If I miss a class?
If you miss a class for any reason you must contact the Vertical Dance team  24 hours prior to the class or your class will be forfeit. You can either join in another pole dance class or do a taster class instead but you must inform Vertical Dance first. You must complete your 6 week course within 8 weeks and you must start you class within one month of booking.

If I have slippery hands?
1 in 10 students have sweaty hands and find traction to the pole almost impossible. The best advice is to invest in some climbing chalk in the ball form or liquid form. You can purchase some from the shop.  Vertical Dance does not recommend that dancers use chalk unless really necessary. You can come to rely on it when performing.
